Black Dahlia / Bit of a snoozefest really. I'm not into whodunnit movies where 90% of the story is revealed in the last 10 minutes, and the pacing of this movie was just terrible. The whole setting did nothing for me either, inspite of this week's infatuation with Bioshock. Really not much else to say on the subject - I guess the movie would have been significantly more noteworthy had Scarlett shed her clothes or something.
Tekkon Kinkreet / Watched in Japanese so missed a few of the fine points, but overall the plot was pretty easy to grasp, and the whole movie was a great experience. The visuals were beautiful, honestly some of the best I've seen in an animation. And with a soundtrack by Plaid, which I've already listened to countless times, it was like a lavish extended music video. It's quite a long piece for an animation, weighing in at just under two hours, but there's always plenty of action going on. Tons of symbolism at work too, so you can chew on the ideas a lot after you've seen it... next up, Paprika.
Children of Men / Had been warned to expect a really dark, depressing movie by
dcharlie and that's pretty much what it was, but the cinematography was amazing, the story was chilling and very realistic, but the end was such a relief, after all the heavy plot, that it brought me to tears. Thoroughly recommendable, but not a party movie by any means.
